Ex Meghalaya Speaker Charles Pyngrope emerges as party favourite to lead Congress

Shillong, Jan 11 (UNI) Veteran Congress and Leader of Opposition in the Meghalaya
Assembly, Dr. Mukul Manda Sangma on Monday hinted a change in the State
Congress leadership with senior party leader and former Assembly Speaker, Charles
Pyngrope emerging as the favourite to take charge after the incumbent State party
president, Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh has expressed his desire to step down from his post.
“... he (Lyngdoh) has been speaking to us for quite sometime it is not just now, but
from November-December. We are all required to shoulder our responsibility as long
as possible," Sangma told reporters.
Sangma, the former Chief Minister informed that the State party has sought the
approval from the party high command so that Lyngdoh could be relieved from his
responsibilities.
Stating that a "collective" decision would be soon taken on the issue, Sangma said,
“We will decide to see if he (Lyngdoh) has to be relieved and how best we can do that.”
On the expected change of leadership in the State party, Sangma informed that a
consensus has emerged on who could best lead the party in the State.
“Some of the party legislators are rooting for Charles Pyngrope as the new PCC

be taken getting everyone on board.
“We (Congress) do have an inherent system, which has withstood the test of time
