Apple's AirPods range of wireless earbuds went unchanged through the entirety of 2020 - the only launch was the AirPods Max, which are over-ears and a very different prospect. But this could soon change.

The Japanese blog Macotakara claims Apple plans to release the next generation of AirPods Pro in April 2021. The information is believed to come from a source within the Chinese production chain.

According to Macotakara, the new headphones will have a slightly redesigned charging case, with the same thickness of 21mm but with a height of 46mm and a width of 54mm. Today's charging case for AirPods Pro, which was released in October 2019, has a height of 45.2mm and a width of 60mm.

Otherwise, no further information is revealed about the alleged headphones, which the blog claims will launch alongside the new iPhone SE.
