HP: 75 pc polling recorded for 4 Civic bodies in Hamirpur

Hamirpur (HP), Jan 10 (UNI) About seventy–five per cent of the voters exercised their right of franchise for the four local bodies of the district for which elections were held on Sunday.
The polling that started at 0800 hrs ended at 1600 hrs sharp at almost all places except in two wards where a number of voters had gathered in time but could not vote due to rush and had to be accommodated leading to delay in the closing of the voting there.
Three persons suffering from COVID-19 also cast their votes in today’s election in Hamirpur.
Bhota Kaswa Nagar panchayat topped with 83.77 per cent polling followed by Nadaun Nagar panchayat with 81.62 pc, Sujanpur Nagar Parishad 74.31 pc and Hamirpur 63.35 pc.
Interestingly, women voters once again proved their supremacy and voted in large numbers as compared to their men counterparts. Long queues of women voters were the main feature of the election that started on a dull note due to foggy and inclement weather but became brisk once the Sun appeared.
At many polling stations of Hamirpur and Sujanpur, the voters complained about their names being missing from the voter lists though they had voted in the last assembly elections and the Lok Sabha elections.
Not only this, voters were asked to provide identity proof for which no announcement was made by the State election commission earlier. As a result, a number of voters had to return to their houses to come with the identity proofs to cast their votes and it was resented by all.
Deputy Commissioner, Debashweta Banik said that the elections have happened smoothly in all four urban areas in the district of Hamirpur. Polls were held keeping in mind covid related guidelines and were peaceful, she added.
She further clarified that the requirement of photo ID cards is always there in every election...out of a list of 11 such options, any photo ID card is acceptable in every election.
