BATHINDA: On the day of his marriage, Jagdeep Singh of Thikriwal village in Barnala reached Mehal Kalan toll plaza to participate in the farmers’ protest before heading to his bride’s native place, Shahzad village in Ludhiana. Jagdeep, his immediate family members and members of the marriage party spent over half an hour at the farmers’ protest and handed over Rs 11,000 to farm organisation BKU (Ekta Dakonda).
Dressed in the attire of a bridegroom, Jagdeep also carried the flag of the farmer organisation and raised slogans. He said he wanted his marriage solemnised only after participating in the protest. Activists of the farm organisation appreciated his gesture.
Earlier, a family from Malout had placed a donation box at their marriage party, asking guests to donate for the farmers’ struggle instead of giving shagun to them. The family donated Rs 1 lakh collected in the donation box to farmers’ organisations.
