IPL 2021 Teams strategy Retained Players, RTM, Released Players List as per InsideSport assumption
CSK IPL 2020 Squad: MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, M Vijay, Narayan Jagadeesan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, KM Asif, Josh Hazlewood, Kedar Jadhav, Harbhajan Singh, Karn Sharma, Piyush Chawla, Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina, Imran Tahir , Deepak Chahar, Faf du Plessis, Shardul Thakur, Mitchell Santner, Dwayne Bravo, Lungi Ngidi, Sam Curran, Monu Kumar, Shane Watson, Sai Kishore
CSK’s Possible Retained Players and Likely RTM Choices: England all-rounder Sam Curran is one such player. He’ has been one of the few positives from a lackluster season and CSK will be desperate to retain the services of the 22-year-old. He’s contributed to the team in both departments, as MS Dhoni rightfully pointed, he’s been a complete player for CSK.
Next in is veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The 32-year-old has been a great servant of the franchise due to his exemplary performances with both, bat and bowl. This season, Jadeja played some crucial batting cameos at various batting positions. (194 runs @ 48.50).
Last but not the least, South African stalwart Faf du Plessis. For many, age is just a number, and he surely is one of them. Faf, 36, is aging like a fine wine and it seems like he can carry on this momentum for a couple of seasons. He scored 449 runs this season at a healthy average of just over 40.

MI IPL 2020 Squad: Rohit Sharma, Sherfane Rutherford, Suryakumar Yadav, Anmolpreet Singh, Chris Lynn, Saurabh Tiwary, Dhawal Kulkarni, Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell McClenaghan, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult, Mohsin Khan, Prince Balwant Rai Singh, Digvijay Deshmukh, Hardik Pandya, Jayant Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Anukul Roy, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Ishan Kishan, Quinton de Kock, Aditya Tare.
MI’s Possible Retained players and Likely RTM choices
Rohit will be the first and obvious choice, having led them to a record four IPL triumphs. Though this season has been a bit scruffy, in terms of runs scored, his strike rate of 129. The 34-year-old still has a lot left in the tank.
Second on the list MI’s death overs specialist, Jasprit ‘Boom Boom’ Bumrah. In his 7th season in the IPL, Bumrah remains to be one of the deadliest bowlers in the cash-rich league, with his fiery yorkers. Also, he has bagged more than 15 wickets in each of the last three seasons, at an average under 25. His selection should be a no-brainer.
Swashbuckling all-rounder Hardik Pandya is the third and final contender. Despite not bowling a single bowl, having undergone a back surgery, his ability to churn out runs at any stage of the game by a sensational strike rate of 161.84- makes him an asset for MI. He should be easy picking for the final slot.

RCB IPL 2020 Squad: Virat Kohli, Moeen Ali, Yuzvendra Chahal, AB de Villiers, Parthiv Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Pawan Negi, Umesh Yadav, Gurkeerat Mann, Devdutt Padikkal, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Navdeep Saini, Aaron Finch, Chris Morris, Joshua Philippe, Kane Richardson, Pavan Deshpande, Dale Steyn, Shahbaz Ahamad, Isuru Udana
RCB’s Possible Retained players and Likely RTM choices
Captain and his deputy, Virat Kohli, and AB de Villiers should be their first and second priority. The pair, over the years, has been consistent with the willow and this season hasn’t been any different. Sao far, Virat has scored 460 runs with a healthy average of 46. ABD, on other hand, isn’t far behind with 398 from as many outings. However, his strike rate is way superior, especially in the last four overs. So, their retention should be a no-brainer.
Indian leggie Yuzvendra Chahal rounds off the list as RCB’s final top-retention candidate. His tally of 20 wickets (@ 7.19 rpo) this season isn’t paralleled by any other RCB bowler and easily establishes him as the talisman of their bowling unit. His wicket-taking astuteness makes his retention a no-brainer choice.

After being named captain midway through the season, replacing Dinesh Karthik, Eoin Morgan has certainly proved his worth with the bat. Batsman Shubman Gill should also feature on the retention list. The Fazilka-born youngster into the team’s top-order, midway through the last season, and his stats have been worth the hype. The 20-year-old is KKR’s top scorer this season with 440 runs at a promising average of 33.53, including three 50+ knocks. If groomed properly, Gill could even lead KKR in the future. The lanky Australian fast bowler, Pat Cummins, might also find himself in the retention spots. Though he has picked up just 12 wickets, his ability to hold the flow of runs from one end makes him such a special player. He had a pretty slow start but Morgan’s leadership has brought the best out of him. His economical spells, in the powerplay, has helped KKR, who have struggled to get runs this season. Moreover, Cummins has proven to be a pretty handy customer with the bat.Alternate RTM candidates: Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Lockie Ferguson, Nitish RanaOther players who are certain to be retained:

Skipper Shreyas Iyer should unarguably be the first priority. Even putting his batting prowess aside, Shreyas, as a skipper, has been tactically solid. He’s managed the blend of experience and exuberance pretty well. With 25 wickets to his name in this season, Kagiso Rabada has matched his tally of wickets from last season. He’s been the leader of their bowling unit, bagging wickets at a mind-boggling average of 13.94. Should be easy pickings.Rounding off their retention list is their Australian powerhouse, Marcus Stoinis. Stoinis’ ability to contribute in both the departments certainly warrants a spot on Delhi’s top retentions. He’s scored 249 runs so far in the tournament, at a striker rate of just over 150, which is highly impressive.Alternate RTM candidates: Anrich Nortje, Rishabh Pant, Axar PatelOther players who are certain to be retained:

KXIP IPL 2020 squad: KL Rahul (c), Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, Karun Nair, Sarfaraz Khan, Mandeep Singh, Sheldon Cottrell, Ishan Porel, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohammed Shami, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Arshdeep Singh, Hardus Viljoen, M Ashwin, J Suchith, Harpreet Brar, Darshan Nalkande, Glenn Maxwell, James Neesham, Chris Jordan, Krishnappa Gowtham, Deepak Hooda, Tajinder Singh Dhillon, Nicholas Pooran, Prabhsimran Singh
KXIP’s Possible Retained players and Likely RTM choices
With more than 1000 runs between them this season, skipper KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal stellar stats make an extremely compelling case for their retention. With one century and five half-centuries to his name, Rahul scored 670 runs is the current orange cap holder, which he’s likely to hold on to.
Mayank, on the other hand, scored the majority of his 424 runs during the first half of the season. Though as not consistent as Rahul, Mayank’s staggering strike rate of 150 makes him exactly the kind of player his team would be happy to keep investing in.
Youngster Ravi Bishnoi is our third and final pick. The right-arm spinner has been a breath of fresh air in the bowling, especially when most of their bowlers have leaked runs heavily. Bishnoi finishes the season with 12 wickets and a pretty decent economy of 7.37. His performances have been a hot topic of debate.
Alternate RTM candidates: Chris Gayle, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammad Shami
KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Mohammed Shami, Ravi Bishnoi, Nicholas Pooran, Mandeep Singh, Chris Jordan, Murugan Ashwin, Arshdeep Singh

SRH IPL 2020 Squad: Kane Williamson, David Warner, Manish Pandey, Virat Singh, Priyam Garg, Abdul Samad, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Sandeep Sharma, Siddharth Kaul, Billy Stanlake, T Natarajan, Abhishek Sharma, Shahbaz Nadeem, Jason Holder, Fabian Allen, Vijay Shankar, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Sanjay Yadav, Jonny Bairstow, Wriddhiman Saha, Shreevats Goswami, Bavanaka Sandeep, Basil ThampiSRH’s Possible Retained players and Likely RTM choices
Skipper David Warner, once again, proved that he’s one of the deadliest batsmen in T20 cricket. He’s now scored at least 500 runs in each of the last 6 seasons. He should be their most prioritized retention candidate.
Over the years, SRH have been the most consistent bowling unit, and the credit largely goes to the sheer-brilliance of Afghan spinner, Rashid Khan. He’s bagged 71 wickets with a brilliant economy of 6.25, since joining SRH in 2017. Not to mention, his potential to lead the team once Warner decides to finish his career.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson completes this star-studded retention pack. Williamson, over the years, has been one of the most reliable middle-order batsmen. His constant presence at no. 3 or 4 has been a blessing for SRH, especially the skipper, as Williamson makes Warner’s job a bit much easier, having captained SRH in the absence of the Australian.
Alternate RTM candidates: Jonny Bairstow, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Manish Pandey

RR has the most flamboyant core of foreign players, including Englishmen, Jofra Archer, and Ben Stokes. Archer, throughout the season, seemed sharp, which made him one of the most economical bowlers of the season. Moreover, he has the ability to play some handy cameos lower down the order, which makes a strong case for his retention.
Ben Stokes, on the other hand, virtually missed half of the campaign as he decided to spend some time with his ailing father. Upon his arrival in the UAE, Stokes looked a bit shaky at the start, but his match-winning ton against Mumbai Indians has made him another strong contender for the retention.
Finally, their marquee Indian player, Sanju Samson. The Kerala-born wicketkeeper-batsman has played a fair number of match-winning innings for his side, over the years. He has scored more than 1000 runs in the past three seasons. However, RR would expect a bit more consistency from the 25-year-old.
