Attempts to create controversy over Tarigami’s meeting with LG uncalled for: CPI (M)

Srinagar, Jan 10 (UNI) The CPI(M) on Sunday said the attempts to create controversy over its senior leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami’s recent meeting with J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha is unnecessary and uncalled for.

A CPI(M) spokesperson said it is unfortunate that the Peoples Conference (PC) leader Imran Raza Ansari attempted to drag the name of Mr Tarigami to create controversy about the latter’s recent meeting with Mr Sinha to demand impartial and time-bound inquiry in recent Srinagar encounter.

“In his letter, Mr Ansari has brought Mr Tarigami’s meeting with the Lieutenant Governor in focus which is absolutely unwarranted,” he said.

However, he said Mr Tarigami met Mr Sinha to demand impartial and time-bound enquiry into the killing of three youth from south Kashmir in Hokersar-Lawaypora encounter on December 30.
“Whom else should we approach and ask for probe and justice to the victim families,” he asked.

The CPI(M) spokesperson further said the meeting of Mr Tarigami with the Lt Governor doesn’t violate the spirit of Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD). “The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), whose J&K unit is headed by Mr Tarigami, had also moved the National Human Rights Commission, seeking a probe into the killing of three labourers from Rajouri in Shopian last July,” he said.

He said the CPI (M) will continue its efforts by using every opportunity for demanding justice for the victims.
