NHRC warns states about the plight of transgenders

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is extremely angry about the plight of transgenders in the country. The Commission has expressed serious displeasure over not filing an Action Report (ATR) of steps taken to improve it.

Along with this, warnings have been given to take punitive action against the chief secretaries of all states and union territories. The NHRC has ordered the filing of this report by 16 January. The NHRC gave this order in a decision on the petition of Supreme Court lawyer and human rights activist Radhakant Tripathi.

Tripathi says that due to the negligence shown by the Center, States, and Union Territories, transgenders in the country are in a much worse condition and are not getting the benefit of government welfare schemes. He alleged that governments had also failed to implement the NALSA decision given by the Supreme Court to protect the rights of transgender people.
