NOIDA: The District Development Residents Welfare Association (DDRWA) body held a meeting with DCP traffic Ganesh Prasad Shah along with ACP Rajneesh Verma, SHO Sector 24 Prabhat Kumar Dixit and the traffic team on Sunday, where residents raised the issue of haphazard driving by bus, taxi and auto drivers in many parts of the city.
The need to train and discipline auto drivers, many of whom are 14-15 year olds and operate illegally and the need for a weekly meeting of traffic officials with sector RWAs to take feedback and address issues related to traffic in sector markets and the city.
The meeting that was held at Chokhi Haveli at Shilp Haat sector 33A included residents offering services of traffic marshals on the occasion where traffic cops were also felicitated by the RWA body for maintaining vigil even post unlock.
“We met DCP Shah to apprise him of the growing traffic situation in the city and how best to tackle the problem especially at Botanical Garden, Wave City Centre metro stations, Rajnigandha chowk, sector 62 crossing and more. Problems of bus and auto drivers were also mentioned where they not only drive recklessly, but also park on the side or middle of the roads without care for commuters. I also mentioned the underage driving of many auto drivers who need to be checked while others require discipline,” said NP Singh president DDRWA.
The meeting was attended by presidents and general secretaries of many social and resident welfare associations where DCP Shah assured better traffic management of the city.
During the meeting, it was also decided that to help the traffic police work better, residents’ cooperation will be provided by way of volunteers who will act as traffic marshals to manage the traffic at busy intersections. “Forms were filled by the traffic department for the purpose to deploy consenting residents for the job,” said Rajiv Kumar advisor DDRWA.
