The State Transport Department will operate 31,491 buses from January 11 to 13 and from January 17 to 19 in view of Pongal festival that is falling on January 14. From Chennai, 19,771 buses would be operated before and after the festival.
Chennai:
For the festival, 16,221 buses would be operated, including 10,228 buses from the city and 5,993 between various destinations in the State. In Chennai, 4,078 special buses will be operated, in addition to 2,050 regular service buses every day (6,150 buses from January 11 to 13) from the five bus termini.
Long-distance buses would be operated from Koyambedu, Madhavaram, KK Nagar, Tambaram Arignar Anna bus terminus of MEPZ and Poonamallee.
Buses to Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Tiruchy, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Salem, and Coimbatore would be operated from Koyambedu terminus, while those to Ponneri, Gummidipoondi and Uthokottai via Red Hills would be operated from Madhavaram new terminus. Buses plying via ECR to Puducherry, Cuddalore and Chidambaram would be operated from KK Nagar terminus.
The Tambaram MEPZ terminus would operate buses to Tindivanam, Tiruvannamalai, Vikravandi, Panruti and Kumbakonam, and Poonamallee terminus would operate buses to Kancheepuram, Vellore, Arani, Arcot, Tirupattur and Dharmapuri.
The Transport Corporations would also operate 15,270 buses, including 9,543 to the city and 5,727 to other destinations across the State, from January 17 to 19.
Thirteen special advance booking counters have been opened in Koyambedu, Tambaram MEPZ and Poonamallee.
