UDUPI: Two motorcycle borne miscreants who posed as policemen defrauded a woman of her gold jewellery when she was on her way home near Sai Radha apartments at Ambalpady junction on Sunday.
The miscreants ‘informed’ Vasanthi, 47, the complainant that some had snatched a gold chain from a woman by showing her a knife and asked her to hand over her gold ornaments which they wrapped in a paper and returned to her.
Vasanthi realised their sleight of hand only when she returned home and realised that her 6 grams of gold jewellery valued at approximately Rs 40,000 was missing and the fraudsters had left her with five fake bangles. Based on her complaint, a case under sections 406 (breach of trust), 417 (cheating) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) read with 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) has been registered in Udupi town police station.
