Kanpur: A 58-year-old man was allegedly hacked and burnt to death in Daulatpur village in Ghatampur area of the district on Friday night.
Victim Shiv Shankar Sankhwar’s badly charred body was spotted by his wife and children who informed the local police on Saturday morning.
Police said an FIR has been registered in the case against the unidentified persons and the matter is being investigated.
They said the report of the post-mortem is yet to be received.
Ghatampur Inspector Rajiv Singh said a complaint in this regard was filed by the victim’s family.
“The victim had gone to his agricultural fields to guard his crop from stray cattle on Friday night. The wife of the deceased has suspected the hand of a village man, with whom the victim had entered into an altercation over some issue a few days ago, behind the gruesome killing. We have taken him into custody and his questioning at present is underway,” Singh added.
The investigators further told TOI that the assailants hacked the man to death elsewhere, dumped his body in the fields in the village outskirts and later set it on fire by dousing it with inflammable substance.
