CHENNAI: DMK deputy general secretary A Raja on Saturday asked CM Edappadi K Palaniswami to stop levelling “baseless corruption charges” against the DMK, failing which the party would resort to filing a case against him. Raja also wondered why the CM was not coming forward for a debate on corruption charges he levelled against DMK leaders.
“The CM has been levelling baseless corruption charges against the DMK. If he does not stop this, a case will be filed against him,” Raja told reporters in Chennai.
Palaniswami, while campaigning in Tuticorin and Coimbatore districts recently, said 24 DMK MLAs and former ministers faced corruption charges and also alleged that the DMK had indulged in scams when it was in power. Rebutting Palaniswami, Raja said, “The AIADMK is notorious for corruption. There were several corruption charges against AIADMK leaders. People say this during the grama sabhas organised by our party. People want a change in government.”
Referring to the CM’s comment in Tiruvarur on December 9 that Raja was not big enough for him to accept his (Raja’s) challenge for a debate, Raja said he had become a Union minister 10 years before Palaniswami became a state minister. “But I am not getting into the debate on who is bigger. I called upon him to participate in a debate to lay down the facts and truth before all. He has no guts to come for debate nor will he send an advocate on his behalf,” said Raja.
