The updated BS6-compliant Tata Hexa was displayed in the form of the Hexa Safari Edition at Auto Expo 2020. It was expected to launch in 2020, but it was deferred due to the pandemic. Now, a tweet from Tata Motors has confirmed the updated crossover MPV will be launched later in 2021.
The main update will be under the hood with the 2.2-litre diesel engine being upgraded to meet BS6 emission standards. It should continue to develop 156PS of power and 400Nm of torque. The updated Hexa will be offered with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions as well as an optional four-wheel-drive system. The 4WD variant could be offered with an automatic transmission as well.
The four-wheel-drive variants could be christened the Safari Edition as seen at Auto Expo 2020. The Hexa at the expo was finished in green with black alloy wheels and lighter interior colours. We expect both these elements to be retained in the final production model. Apart from these updates, the Hexa remains unchanged.
The Hexa BS6 will be Tata’s only body-on-frame vehicle when it goes on sale later this year. Prices could start from Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the Mahindra Marazzo and the Toyota Innova Crysta as well as other similarly priced SUVs such as the Mahindra XUV500 and MG Hector Plus.
