GUWAHATI: Congress staged a torch rally to protest against the new farm laws in Lakhimpur district on Thursday night. The protesters demanded immediate withdrawal of the laws which have triggered massive protests across the country.
“The farmers’ protest in the national capital has crossed 40 days. Talks after talks are being held between the farmers and the Centre. But this fascist government is not ready to listen to the farmers. The laws must be scrapped for the greater interest of the farmers of the country,” one the protesters said.
Assam Congress chief Ripun Bora said, “The MSP will no longer have a legal status. The farmers cannot go to the civil courts in case of a dispute. Contractors will be able to take secured loan against farmers’ land. We strongly oppose the laws and demand that they should be scrapped immediately.”
