SURAT: The district and sessions court in Surat on Friday granted bail to assistant sub inspector (ASI) Sardar Bhagora and GRD Jawan Sagar Radadiya, both posted at Kamrej police station of Surat Rural police, in a bribery demand case.
According to the case, anti-corruption bureau had booked nine cops and a Gram Rakshak Dal (GRD) jawan of Kamrej police station in Surat district December 30 last year for allegedly demanding a bribe from an accused in a cheating case. The cops demanded the bribe to favour the accused in the cheating case. ACB had laid a trap on September 13 but the accused did not accept the bribe amount and the trap failed.
As per the case, the accused have demanded bribe of Rs 10 lakh and on negotiation it was fixed Rs.3 lakh - out of which the complainant had to give Rs 1.20 lakh at the time when complainant go to the police station to give tiffin to his brother and that accused have demanded money not to seize the Baleno Car in the offence and not to arrest the brother of the complainant in other offence.
Though the accused did not accept the bribe, a police investigation revealed involvement of all the accused including the police inspector. ACB had booked police inspector, J B Vanaar, three assistant sub inspectors- Chanda Vasava, Sushila Rawal and Sardar Bhagora-, one head constable Kuldeepdan Barhat, four constables- Jayesh Nirjani, Alpesh Desai, Dipak Desai, Jaydeepsinh Chauhan, and GRD Jawan Sagar Radadiya. Of the 10 accused, Bhagora and Radadiya had been arrested by ACB on December 30.
"Sardar Bhagora is police station officer at Kamrej Police Station but, to keep the accused in lock up is not falls in the duty of this applicant but, he has to merely maintain the lock up register and Bhagora has not kept the brother of the complainant in lock-up and not demanded any bribe from the complainant,'' Bhagora's advocate S G Yadav argued.
"Sagar Radadiya is not having any specific role in the offence. He is not the main accused and he has supported the investigation,'' Radadiya's advocate R V Modi argued in the case.
