A year on since laying of the foundation stone for the six-metre wide underpass at the level-crossing at Guirdolim, the people continue to suffer for hours as the work still remains incomplete.

The work was to be completed by end of March 2020 but was pushed further due to the corona pandemic-induced lockdown.

The South Western Railway meanwhile took up work of track doubling on a war footing amidst protests from cross sections of the society opposing the track project.

The residents of Chandor and Guirdolim have expressed their displeasure over the continued delay by the South Western Railway to complete the underpass.

Residents said that “we were assured that the work would be completed in 90 days at the time of laying of the foundation stone but a year on people still face hardships at the railway crossing.”

While there has been no relief for the two villages, the railways has prioritised the double tracking work over a genuine problem faced by the people, stated a resident.  Why is it taking so long, questioned a youth.

The cost of the project was estimated at rupees one crore for the six-metre wide underpass along with pedestrian footpath and other facilities.

The railways has so far just built one side of the subway on the Chandor side of the railway tracks while on the Guirdolim side it is yet to be built along with the approach
roads.
