In a bid to woo the voters abroad, the Opposition DMK on Friday constituted the party’s Non-Resident of India (NRI) welfare wing.
Chennai:
DMK general secretary Duraimurugan on Friday said that Manargudi legislator TRB Rajaa will be NRI wing secretary and his deputies would be Dharmapuri MP S Senthil Kumar and MM Abdulla, Puddukkottai general body member, as joint secretaries.
The DMK’s move to constitute the NRI wing came against the backdrop of the Election Commission’s (EC) recent initiative to extend postal ballots to NRIs.
Accordingly, the new wing of DMK will look into adding members of NRIs and also setup party offices to regulate it.
The EC has also recommended that it would provide technology -- Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System to the NRI voters to exercise their franchise from their respective places for the coming Assembly elections to Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, and Assam.
