Chief Minister Pramod Sawant laid the foundation stone of the new Balika Kalyan Ashram of Matruchhaya, the home for orphans, homeless and destitute children, at Talaulim- Ponda on Saturday and assured Matruchhaya of providing all sorts of support from the government as well as himself for the betterment of the ashram and its children. Along with him, central working president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad Alok Kumar, Matruchhaya Trust chairman Shrinivas V Dempo and other dignitaries were present for the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sawant expressed that Matruchhaya is doing excellent job for the orphans, homeless and destitute children in the state and “I am feeling proud that I am connected to this organisation.”

Taking note of the work done by the trust, the state government is ready to provide any sort of support and assistance needed by the trust in the future, he said.

Dempo, in his address, said that new premises for Balika Kalyan Ashram is the need of the hour and with support of the people, Matruchhaya has finally begun work of the new premises which will have all sorts of facilities for girls, which were not possible in earlier building.

Modern facility with kitchen, dining, prayer room and study room will be the highlights of the new building, he stated.

As per information, the project work will be taken up in two phases wherein the first phase will include basic facility for around 75 girls which will be provided in the built-up area of around 875 square metres, which will be constructed by spending around Rs 2.50 crore, while other necessary facilities will be taken up in the second phase.

Since last 4 decades, the Matruchhaya has undertaken varied social activities. Currently Matruchhaya runs a home for toddlers and girls at Dhavali, a home for boys at Talaulim and one more home for girls in Margao.
