NOIDA: Amaltash Marg, the busy artery that commuters regularly use to ply between the DND Flyway and the Sector 12/22 crossing, will soon be free of traffic signals.

To reduce traffic congestion around the three busy crossings on the stretch, the Noida Authority is planning to rework the design and engineering of the road between Rajnigandha Chowk and the Sector 12-22-56 T-point.
This Master Plan I road is perennially congested as it connects the residential colonies to the commercial hotspots in the old sectors of the city. The three key intersections of the stretch — Sector 12/22 crossing, Noida Stadium crossing, Sector 19 telephone exchange crossing — remain packed during the peak traffic hours and it takes around 20 to 25 minutes for commuters to negotiate the 3.5-km-long stretch.
Nitesh Rawat, Bishanpura resident who often uses the stretch, “It is difficult to get past these crossings during the evening. I feel lucky if I can cross the stretch even when the traffic lights are green.”
One and a half years ago, the Noida Authority had deputed Central Road Research Institute to conduct a detailed survey across the busy routes in the city and suggest ways to bring down the number of traffic signals installed to regulate these stretches. “The agency was asked to study the traffic patterns across our three master plan routes and suggest improvements. The final report will be tabled before us on January 15 and we will start altering the engineering of the Master Plan-I road after post that,” said in-charge of the authority’s traffic cell, SC Mishra.
If the suggestions are carried out, the telephone exchange intersection will cease to exist and instead the cut near Sector 20 police station will be widened to make a U-turn to facilitate movement between Sector 4 and 20. To reduce the burden at the Noida Stadium crossing, U-turns have been proposed near the Indian Oil petrol pump.
While those heading between the 12, 22, 56 T point and Rajnigandha Chowk in both directions will not have to wait at the signals, the ones who will need to cross the Amaltash Marg will need to make a U-turn. The officials said that double U-turns will be made to facilitate movement from both the ends.
For the Sector 12/22/56 T-point, movement of traffic from the master plan road towards Sector 55 will be blocked. The traffic will be diverted towards Sector 12 instead and commuters will have to take a U-turn to head towards Sector 55. Also, motorists from Sector 55 will be allowed to turn left and head towards Rajnigandha Chowk.
