Mahindra has announced that it’ll be hiking prices across its entire model lineup on January 08, 2021. While it hasn’t revealed the updated prices, it has announced that the Thar’s first price hike will make it dearer by 1.9 percent. These updated prices will be applicable for bookings made between December 01, 2020 and January 08, 2021. Customers who booked the SUV in the launch month of November 2020 will have to pay the launch prices.
Mahindra also states that customers booking the Thar from January 08 onwards will need to pay the final price applicable during the time of delivery. So it seems like there could be a second price hike for the Thar in the pipeline. The Thar currently commands a waiting period of around 9 months. The company recently discontinued the base-spec AX std and AX variants with side-facing seats to maintain the Thar’s 4 star crash rating and it now starts from around Rs 12 lakh.
It’s offered with two engines: a 150PS 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 130PS 2.2-litre diesel unit. Both engines drive all four wheels and can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Thar’s introductory prices, applicable only for bookings made in November 2020, ranged between Rs 11.90 lakh and Rs 13.75 lakh (ex-showroom). It doesn’t have any rivals but will face competition from the upcoming Force Gurkha BS6 and Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
Mahindra is now focusing on its next important launches: the second-gen XUV500 and the new Scorpio. Both models are currently being tested and are expected to be launched soon. They will be larger than before, have more powerful engines and will come with more features as well. Stay tuned for more updates on this space.
