New Delhi: After a small rise in active cases Thursday, India’s active case count Friday declined to 2,25,449. The R value, meanwhile, increased this week and the number of deaths rose slightly in the last 24 hours.

The effective reproduction number (R) for India increased to 0.91, from last week’s 0.90. R must be kept under 1 for an epidemic to come to an end.

India recorded 18,139 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, with over 60 per cent of the new cases reported from the five states with the highest active case count.

After a small rise Thursday, the active number of cases in India declined to 2,25,449 in the last 24 hours. As of Friday, Kerala, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh are the states with the highest number of active cases.

In the last 24 hours, 234 people with Covid-19 died in the country, bringing the total coronavirus number of fatalities in India to 1,50,570, since the beginning of the pandemic.

Punjab’s case fatality rate (CFR) continues to be the highest in the country at 3.22. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s CFR reduced to 2.54. Sikkim’s fatality rate is now 2.16. India’s overall case fatality rate is at 1.45.

In the last 24 hours, 9,35,369 Covid-19 tests were conducted across 1,201 government laboratories and 1,107 private laboratories in the last 24 hours.

A total of 17,93,36,364 tests have been carried out in India since the beginning of the pandemic.

The test positivity rate reduced to 1.9 per cent in the last 24 hours. The overall test positivity, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is 5.8 per cent.

As many as 20,539 Covid-19 patients recovered in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic in India to 1,00,37,398.

A total of 1,04,13,417 people have been infected with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. The largest number of cases so far have been reported from Maharashtra, followed by Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Kerala, the state with the highest number of active cases, reported 5,051 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of cases detected in the state so far to 7,95,933, which is now the fifth highest in India.

Active cases in the state fell to 64,639. With 25 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s Covid-19 toll is now 3,234.

In Maharashtra, 3,729 new cases of Covid were detected in the last 24 hours, causing the active case count in the state to increase to 52,276.

The state has had the highest number of total coronavirus cases (19,58,282) and the highest number of Covid-19 deaths (49,897). In the last 24 hour, 72 Covid deaths were reported.

Uttar Pradesh saw active cases reduce to 11,787, with 505 people testing positive in the last 24 hours.

The state has had a total of 5,90,844 coronavirus cases, of which 8,452 people have died. Eleven Covid-19 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Karnataka’s active cases reduced to 9,138. With seven deaths in the last 24 hours, the state’s death toll is now 12,131.

The state reported 761 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, which brings the total number of cases detected to 9,24,898.

Chhattisgarh now has 8,859 active Covid-19 cases. As many as 1,010 people tested positive for the disease in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of cases detected to 2,86,596.

In the last 24 hours, seven deaths were reported from the state, bringing the total death toll to 3,454.
