Mexican president proposes merging telecom regulator with ministry

Friday 8 January 2021 | 11:17 CET | News
Mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has announced plans to integrate the functions of telecommunications regulator IFT into the country's communications and transportation ministry (SCT). The aim is to cut costs, streamline practices and further reduce monopolies, said the president, adding that a bill proposal would be presented on 11 January. "I am going to present the proposal so that each ministry can draw up a plan, and once we have a plan we can present the legal reforms," said Lopez Obrador during his morning press conference, according to local daily Milenio.
