NCC training should be made compulsory in schools, colleges: DG NCC

New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) Stating that the youth of the country was India's future, Director General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Lt Gen Tarun Kumar Aich on Friday said the NCC training should be made compulsory in schools and colleges, but not free of cost.
Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the annual NCC Republic Day camp press conference, Lt Gen Aich said he would welcome the decision to make the NCC training compulsory in schools and colleges, but the financial burden of it will have to be kept in mind too.
''We'd welcome the decision to make the National Cadet Corps compulsory, but as we all understand, the only problem is money. There's no dearth of youth in our country, but it's not sustainable economically to be run as a free institution,'' Lt Gen Aich said.

Addressing the press conference, Lt Gen Aich said a total of 250 cadets will participate in the Republic Day Parade on January 26. Earlier, 600 cadets used to participate in the parade.
The number has reduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he added.
On being asked about the NCC's role in COVID-19 vaccine distribution, the DG NCC said, ''No requisition has been received so far. We will certainly do, if asked to.''
