Prime accused in Badaun rape-murder case arrested

Badaun, Jan 8 (UNI) The main accused in the Badaun gang-rape & murder case of a 50-year-old Anganwadi woman worker, who was on the run, was arrested late Thursday night, police said.

The priest Satya Narain was arrested from a house of a woman in Mewali village in Ugheti area with the help of local villagers, SSP said here on Friday.

The accused had a bounty of Rs 50,000 on his head.

According to police, the woman was gang-raped and murdered in the Ughaiti area of the district when she had gone to a temple on Sunday evening.

The police station In-Charge was also suspended for the negligence of duty, as the family of the deceased had alleged police apathy for the delay caused in filing the FIR in the case.

Two of his accomplices were arrested on Wednesday.

On Thursday, two-member team of the National Women's Commission (NCW) met the family of the woman. The NCW team also investigated the spot of the incident.

Chandramukhi Devi, one of the members of the Central team, told reporters that she was not satisfied with the role of the police in the incident. If the police would have shown swiftness in the matter, perhaps they could have saved the victim, she said after her visit.
