Stray dog tied, brutally beaten to death by auto driver in Bhosari

The dog was thrashed mercilessly with a wooden stick till collapse at a garage near the Cloud 9 Hotel; the entire crime was caught on CCTV
23-yr-old accused booked under IPC section that values the animal’s life at ₹10, arrested.
The brutal horror of at least 20 stray dogs recently being possibly poisoned and even burned to death is still fresh in the minds of residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad — and now, yet another appalling crime against an animal has been reported from the twin towns within days. This time, a starving stray dog was tied up and cruelly beaten till it plausibly died by an auto rickshaw driver in Bhosari, triggering outrage not just among animal lovers, but also sundry area residents.
The shocking crime took place around 10.30 am on Monday at a garage near theCloud 9 Hotel . It was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage from around the spot. Animal welfare volunteers now filed an offense against the accused at Bhosari police station (PS).
In the revolting video clip, the helpless animal is brought to the spot by Kurade, dragged out and held by a rope. Kurade then systematically starts thrashing the animal and ignoring its bone-chilling screams, breaking all its bones and hitting the head, face and body, till the dog collapses. Kurade then leaves with the body and reportedly disposed of it at some unidentified location. But, police took the issue lightly and did not even bother to find the corpse. As a result, they lost the opportunity to press sterner charges against the dog killer. Whenanimal activist Neeta Pandit , and animal lovers Bharni Dharan, Shrihari Raste and Shraddha Gaikwad learned about the cruelty case via house help, they rushed to Bhosari cops and filed a case against an unidentified man. Later, Kurade was identified.
Police said the crime occurred because Kurade suspected the dog of having eaten some poultry he brought here from his native place. Senior police inspector (SPI) Shankar Avtade of Bhosari PS said, “Kurade claimed the stray ate five or six of his purchased hens. He said he wanted to teach the animal a lesson and admitted that in a fit of rage, brought him in his auto to the garage and thrashed him with a wooden stick. We don’t know where the animal has gone. It might have gone somewhere.”
Complainant Pandit said, “We condemn such terrible cruelty towards animals and press for stern action against the guilty. There are laws that prevent cruelty against animals. It is unacceptable how the poor dog was tied and beaten to death.”
In the last few days, scores of strays have been killed by alleged poisoning and even burnt in Sangvi and Pimple Gurav. The murders had sparked huge outrage in civil society, with animal lovers demanding justice for the strays. Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) veterinary superintendent Dr Arun Dagde confirmed that seven adult dogs and seven puppies died due to consuming poisoned food as per prima facie postmortem report. “We will create awareness in the public regarding stray welfare, but we do have limitations when it comes tobrutal crimes , like murders. Only the cops can take legal action in such cases,” said Dagde.
