Country liquor seized at Chandel

Imphal, January 07 2021: A join team of Police and Assam Rifles seized illicit country liquor at Phaisanjang, Chandel District on January 5 .

Troops of Assam Rifles and Police intercepted two suspected smuggles moving on two wheelers near Phaisangjang, who managed to flee back into Myanmar taking advantage of thick udergrowth but left behind the contraband items, said a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles.

On inspection, ten jeerycans and 48 bottles of illicit country liquor were found from the spot which was worth over Rs 4 lakhs in the market, added the statement.

The seized liquor were handed over to Molcham Police Station, further added the statement.

Another statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles said, Assam Rifles also recovered 50 bags containing four tonnes of betel nut worth Rs 24 lakhs at Yangkhul village in Tengnoupal district on January 6, which was handed over to Customs Department for further investigation.
