The CBI has registered a case of corruption against Harish L Mehta, chairman of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Tamil Nadu branch, MSM Nasruddin, general secretary, and four other executives of IRCS for allegedly causing wrongful loss to the society between 2011 and 2020.

The case was booked based on a complaint from Governor Banwarilal Purohit’s office.

Harish Mehta is also chief traffic warden in Chennai, working in tandem with the traffic police in the city.

Other cited as suspects by the Anti-Corruption Branch, Chennai, are IRCS State treasurer Dr C Indermath, former treasurer Senthilnathan, headquarters joint secretary (Delhi) Manish Choudhury, and former State chairman V Vadivel Mugundhan. 

In its FIR, the CBI said the allegation mentioned in the complaint disclosed that the accused persons and other unknown public servants have committed the offence of criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust and criminal misconduct to cause pecuniary advantage to themselves and caused wrongful loss to the Indian Red Cross Society.
