Hundreds of families displaced after tornado rips through Texas City overnight


TEXAS CITY, Texas – The storm blew through Texas City round 6 p.m on Wednesday night time and left a path of injury behind.

Strong winds ripped the perimeters off of a comfort retailer and displaced round 400 residents at a close-by residence advanced in keeping with Texas City officers.

Margaret Bjerke is a resident on the Trade Winds Apartment Complex and mentioned she was nonetheless ready for her energy to be restored on Thursday morning. She mentioned the storm was fast and horrifying.

“It was the most terrifying minutes that you would ever believe,” Bjerke mentioned.

Michael Vineyard mentioned that he and his household took shelter inside of the residence when the wind began to select up.

“It sounded like a freight train coming thru and by the time I tried to get the door shut, it was sucking me out the door,” Vineyard mentioned. “My son had to grab me and pull me back in and stuff was flying, glass shattering and people were screaming.”

Officials with TNMO mentioned as many as 3,100 clients had been with out energy on Wednesday night time alongside thirteenth Avenue and Palmer Highway from twenty first Street to fifteenth Street.

Nearby Calvin Vincent Early Childhood and Kohfeldt Elementary canceled courses on Thursday.

Blocker Middle School, Texas City High School and Industrial Trade Center delayed courses till 9 a.m. on Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service of Houston declared the injury was brought on by an EF-1 tornado.
