US federal prosecutor does not rule out charging Trump with inciting Capitol riot

Washington, Jan 8 (Sputnik) Acting US Attorney General Michael Sherwin said in a call with reporters that he does not rule out charging President Donald Trump with inciting a riot on Capitol Hill, CNBC reported.
"I don't want to sound like a broken record. We're looking at all actors here," Sherwin said on Thursday when asked whether Trump was a person of interest for his role in starting the riot a day earlier.
The New York Times reported, citing unnamed sources, that Trump has suggested to aides the possibility of pardoning himself of any crimes, but it was unclear if he discussed this matter in light of the unrest on Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
A large group of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building on Wednesday in a bid to prevent Congress from certifying the 2020 presidential election results. The protesters clashed with Capitol police and damaged property before seizing the rotunda and inauguration stage.
The incident took place after Trump reiterated in a speech that he will never concede defeat and urged supporters to continue fighting to overturn the election results, and is marked as the most significant breach of US capitol grounds since the British set fire to it in 1814.
