Kasomtang youths organise cleanliness drive

Ukhrul, January 07 2021: Youths from Kasomtang, Ukhrul cleared the garbage piled up at the roadside of the main market areas of Ukhrul town, yesterday.

The littered waste was piled up at different corners of the town road as the engaged sanitary workers of the Small Town Committee (STC) under District Council had gone on mass leave for Christmas and New year celebrations.

According to source, 43 sanitary workers including three drivers regularly collects the garbage of the town for disposal on a weekly basis, from Monday to Friday.

The reckless littering of waste materials by the town residents from both domestic and commercial usage has made the road junctions a dumping site during the festive season.

A volunteer Awung Ragui informed that the ADC intended candidate Ramreikan Raleng from Ukhrul North DCC sponsored all the expenditures incurred for hiring trucks, purchasing gloves, face mask and other necessary items.

Seeing the messy masses of garbage piling up at different junctions of the town, Ramreikan Raleng personally took the initiative and organized a one day cleanliness drive for disposing of the accumulated waste materials in the greater interest of the Ukhrul town, he added.

Around 40 youths from Kasomtang locality of Ukhrul town participated in the cleanliness drive.

Three trucks were also used for the collection of garbage dumped at four different locations near Mini Secretariat office complex Hamleikhong, Gandhi Chowk, Ukhrul police station and Awongtang bus terminal.
