Thane district records 452 new COVID-19 cases, 6 deaths
With the addition of 452 new coronavirus cases, the infection count in Thane district of Maharashtra rose to 2,45,853, an official said on Friday. The virus claimed the lives of six more persons, pushing the death toll in the district to 6,006.

- The World Health Organization denied that Italian officials pressured it to spike a report into Italy's coronavirus response but said the UN agency should have shared the document with Italy's government before publishing it.
- Dr Hans Kluge, head of WHO's Europe office, said the agency's procedures had been 'overlooked', as he sought to explain WHO's decision to pull the report from its website a day after it was posted May 13. By then, it had already cleared all internal WHO approval protocols and been printed.

12 fresh virus cases in Ladakh; total count 9,589
The union territory of Ladakh reported 12 new cases of coronavirus, pushing the infection count to 9,589, officials said. All fresh cases were detected in Leh.
Brazil's Covid-19 death toll surpasses 200,000
- Brazil's COVID-19 case tally is nearing 8 million, while the related death toll has topped 200,000, the Health Ministry said.
- Over the past 24 hours, the South American country reported 1,524 coronavirus-related fatalities, taking the overall death toll to 200,498.
- At the same time, Brazil confirmed 87,843 COVID-19 cases and the total reached 7,961,673.
- To date, Brazil has registered over 7 million recoveries.

New COVID-19 cases in China's Hebei falls amid new curbs
- The number of new COVID-19 cases reported in China's Hebei province surrounding Beijing fell slightly from a day earlier, as authorities barred people in the provincial capital from leaving in order to curb the spread of the disease.
- Hebei accounted for 33 of the 37 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases reported on Jan. 7, according to a statement by the National Health Commision, down from 51 a day earlier. The total number of cases in all of mainland China fell to 53 from 63 a day earlier.
Pune security guard turns entrepreneur after losing job in COVID-19 lockdown
- A security guard in Maharashtra's Pune used the COVID-19 lockdown for better career prospects after losing his job in December 2019 and became a businessman.
- The spread of the coronavirus outbreak left many without jobs and no income, however, some have turned the adversity into opportunity.
- Hailing from Pimpri-Chinchwad area of Pune, 28-year-old Revan Shinde used to work with a company as a security guard. He now owns a food outlet 'Cafe 18'.
- On a daily basis, Revan sells around 600-700 cups of tea. Revan along with his team clocks a profit of Rs 50,000- 60,000 monthly.
- He supplies tea and coffee to corporate offices and industrial workers.
