COVID-19 active cases spike to 490

Imphal, January 07 2021: After the total number of COVID-19 active cases dramatically dropped to just 442 on January 5, it has now spiked to 490 .

Following the death of a 92-year old man from Churachandpur at Chura-chandpur district hospital during the last 48 hours, the COVID-19 death toll now stands at 364, informed a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang.

On the other hand, the student from Imphal East who was studying in the UK and was tested positive for coronavirus on his return to Imphal has been found negative for the coronavirus strain detected recently in the UK .

JNIMS Director Dr Th Bhimo said that they were informed by the National Institute of Virology, Pune that the student's sample has been found negative for the coronavirus strain which was detected recently in the UK.

The student is currently kept in isolation at RD Wing, Lamphepat.

Dr Bhimo further informed that 80 samples selected from all the samples collected at JNIMS during the months of September, October, November and December (20 each) would be sent to NIV Pune to check whether they contain the coronavirus strain detected in the UK.

During the last 48 hours, 113 people including four personnel of CAPF were tested positive for COVID-19 at Imphal West, RIMS, JNIMS, Shija Hospital, RD Wing, Babina Diagnostics, Churachandpur, Noney, Maipakpi Hospital, Sielmat Hospital, Raj Medicity, and Tamenglong.

The 109 civilians who have been tested positive are residents of Imphal West (61), Imphal East (27), Thoubal (1), Bishnupur (2), Tamenglong (1), Chura-chandpur (10), Tengnoupal (3), Chandel (2), Noney (1) and Ukhrul (1) .

On the other hand, 64 COVID-19 positive people were discharged during the last 48 hours from home isolation (34), JNIMS (4), RIMS (6), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (2), Shija Hospital (2), Raj Medicity (2), Kakching (5), CAPF (8) and RD Wing (1) .

The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 28,531 (general population 25,145 and Central security personnel 3,386) .

It includes 490 active cases (general population 469 and Central security personnel 21) and 27,677 discharged cases (general population 24,316 and Central security personnel 3,361) .

The recovery rate as on Thursday is 97 per cent.
