The state capture commission of inquiry will resume on Friday.

The commission will kick off this year's proceedings with testimony relating a mining joint venture between state-owned diamond company Alexkor and the Alexander Bay community.

Alexkor contractor Gavin Craythom is expected to give the commission more insight into the venture.

Later, the commission will hear evidence from Albert Torres of forensic investigation firm Gobodo, who conducted a forensic investigation into irregularities in the joint venture.

The audit was commissioned by the Department of Public Enterprises.

The commission of inquiry officially began in August 2018 and was expected to wrap up in March 2021.

However, during a virtual media briefing in December, Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo announced that the commission would ask the High Court for a three-month extension.

He said the commission needed to regain time lost during the national Covid-19 lockdown.
