Texas, Pennsylvania detect first cases of new coronavirus strain

Washington, Jan 8 (Sputnik) Health officials in the US states of Texas and Pennsylvania announced on Thursday that they have detected the new strain of the novel coronavirus known as B.1.1.7.
"The first known Texas case of the COVID-19 B.1.1.7 variant has been identified in a resident of Harris County," the Texas Health and Human Services said in a press release.
The health agency said the individual is an adult male with no history of travel.
Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Rachel Levine also confirmed the state's first case of the B.1.1.7 strain.
The new coronavirus strain has also been detected in the US states of Georgia, New York, Colorado, California and Florida.
In late December, the United Kingdom reported that it had identified the B.1.1.7. that is 70 percent more transmissible than other coronavirus strains.
