Greater Noida: Facing offensive remarks from four youths on a private bus, two girls studying in Class XII were forced to jump off the vehicle after they sensed trouble when the driver allegedly did not stop despite their repeated requests.
While one of the girls suffered a leg and a hand fracture, another sustained internal injuries to her waist, foot and head.
According to the girls, both from Ranhera village, they had boarded a private bus travelling towards Bulandshahr via the Jewar-Sikandrabad road around 10am on Thursday.
Soon after the girls boarded the bus, they sat towards the middle of the bus since the youths had been seated in the front.
When the bus reached near the Beerampur village bus stand, the girls saw some other fellow students standing in wait for a commute and they requested the driver to stop the vehicle so that they too could board it.
However, rather than stopping the bus, the driver said it was not plying on the same route and would not be stopped, the girls alleged.
“The youths started commenting saying that the bus would not stop here. They said things like ‘aaj to nahi rukegi bus’ (today the bus will not stop) and ‘mazaa aa gaya’ (it’s going to be fun today). We sensed trouble and went towards the back side of the bus from the middle as we were scared. My friend again asked the bus driver to stop but he continued to drive. Then we jumped from the bus one by one,” one of the girls told TOI.
The girl said that they got scared and hence took that step. “We do not know why they were not stopping despite repeated shouts. We simply jumped off the bus,” she said.
However, the FIR that has been lodged against the driver does not mention these details and only states he did not stop the bus and increased the speed.
Greater Noida police claimed that the allegations concerning the youths’ remarks were not mentioned in the complaint given by the parents of the girls and hence the FIR has been lodged under IPC sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt to any person) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life) against the bus driver.
Additional DCP (Greater Noida) Vishal Pandey said that the bus driver later apologised to the family and that the matter was being resolved.
