RANCHI: The main accused in the attack on the pilot car of chief minister Hemant Soren’s convoy, Bhairav Singh, a member of the RSS, surrendered before the Ranchi district court here on Thursday. He was remanded in seven-day judicial custody.
Bhairav’s lawyer, Kirti Narayan Singh said the court has ordered that police could take Singh out of jail at 11AM and sent him back at 4PM during the judicial custody period, adding that there should be no torture. Narayan said a member of Singh’s family and a lawyer would be present during the police interrogation.
Singh was at the forefront of the protest which led to the damage of the pilot car of CM’s convoy at Kishoreganj and injury of a traffic inspector on Monday. The CM cavalcade was diverted to another route due to the agitation.
After surrendering, Bhairav told the media that he was protesting against the beheading of a woman in Ormanjhi. He said the police have failed to arrest the murder culprits and targeting the protesters.
In the Ormanjhi incident, the headless body of the woman was found in Jeerabar forest on Sunday. The police are trying to identify the woman and the culprits for the past four days. Police are also in touch with their counterparts in the neighbouring districts to find information about missing girls.
Notably, the police on Thursday sent seven more accused persons to jail in connection with the Kishoreganj incident. Police had already sent 26 persons to jail on Wednesday and one of the accused turned out to be Covid positive.
