PANCHKULA: A local court on Wednesday sentenced three persons to life term for the murder of a 19-year-old youth and robbery of jewellery items worth Rs 50 lakh from a shop in Kalka in 2016.
The convicts are Jagdish Ram and Mohmmad Aabid, both residents of Delhi, and Iqbal Ahmed, a resident of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Additional district and sessions judge Narender Sura slapped a fine of Rs 5 lakh each on Ahmed and Aabid, and Rs 2.5 lakh on Ram, ordering Rs 11 lakh be given to the mother of the victim out of the penalty.
The court awarded two-year imprisonment to Naseem Begum and Ram Gopal Verma. The sixth accused, Sadiq, is a proclaimed offender.
In the early hours of July 5, 2016, Ahmed and Aabid entered the shop on the road leading to the famous Kali Mata temple in Kalka after cutting its tin roof. While Aabid held Shivam Verma, the victim, from his throat, Ahmed hit him on the head 11 times with an iron rod. Later, they broke open a chest and fled with jewellery items.
The incident was recorded in CCTV cameras. As Shivam was not picking up the phone the next day, his father Jagdish Raj Verma and brother went to the shop, where they found him lying in a pool of blood.
