Monster Hunter Rise: All You Need to Know From the January 2021 Digital Event

During its January 2021 Digital Event, Capcom has shown off quite a bit of the upcoming Monster Hunter Rise. Let’s get to all the things we now know about Monster Hunter Rise thanks to the digital event.

Monster Hunter Rise Gameplay Details Trailer

Capcom has released a new trailer for Monster Hunter Rise showing off monsters, as well as some of the new systems in the game.

The trailer shows off new and returning monsters. The new one this time around is the Goss Harag, which is an ice element-based Fanged Beast. Goss Harag uses blades of ice, which it creates with its own breath.

Returning monsters shown off in the trailer include Lagombi, Khezu, Great Baggi, Tigrex, Rathalos, and Mizutsune.

The trailer also gave us a look at the new locale, as well as the home base. The locale, Frost Islands, used to be a nest for ancient dragons. Heroes apparently came to Frost Islands to try and slay the ancient dragons, but they all failed.

Some of the new characters we'll meet in the home base are Fugen the village elder, Minoto and Hinoa who are the village and hub quest maidens, Yomogi who runs the local tea shop, Hojo who is the guild master and manager of quests, Master Utsushi who is the leader of the village's hunters, Iori who is the buddy handler for training your Palico and Palamute, the Felyne chief Kogarashi, and Rondine the trader. The hub are will also have a practice area like in Monster Hunter World.

Monster Hunter Rise Wyvern Riding

The studio spoke about the new mounting system coming to Monster Hunter Rise. Dubbed Wyvern Riding, the new system makes use of aerial attacks and the new wirebug to introduce a new method to mount and topple monsters.

Once unlocked, hunters can use wirebug-based attacks, as well as aerial attacks to be able to eventually pin a monster down, allowing the hunter to get on their back and control them. Monsters mounted through this new system are controllable, and can be even made to attack other monsters.

Monster Hunter Rise Demo Details

The studio also revealed details about the Monster Hunter Rise demo, which is out now on the Switch. Sadly, the demo is only available for a limited period of time, and will not be available after February 1.

The demo features two hunting quests at two distinct difficulty levels. Beginner hunters will take on the Great Izuchi, while Intermediate hunters will be tackling Mizutsune. The demo will also feature two training modes, one focusing on the wirebug and one focusing on Wyvern Riding.

All 14 weapon types will be playable in the demo.
