Pelosi to Speak Amid Calls for Trump Ouster: Congress Update

Bookmark

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is set to speak on whether she’ll join calls for the ouster of President Donald Trump in the wake of what many lawmakers say was his incitement of the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol Wednesday.

Pelosi is scheduled for a press briefing in Washington at 1 p.m. Earlier Thursday, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer urged the president’s removal, either by the 25th Amendment -- which would require the backing of Vice President Mike Pence and a majority of Trump’s cabinet -- or by impeachment.

Outgoing Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham has separately scheduled a briefing at 2 p.m., without stating the purpose. Some House Democrats, meanwhile, are circulating articles of impeachment.
