MUMBAI: Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), India’s premier container port, kick-started the New Year with the induction of a new Tug-Boat 'Daisy Star' on Wednesday.
To mark the induction, the new year celebrations were held aboard with the crew of the tug and polestar maritime team along with MbPT chairman Sanjay Sethi, and deputy chairman Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, other senior officials and stakeholders of JNPT.
The 'Daisy Star' will help in handling vessels of various sizes thereby providing more safety during the berthing of larger ships. Additionally, during strong tide and severe monsoon conditions, the tug-boat will add to the safety of marine operations. Tug boats help in mooring or berthing operation of large ships by either towing or pushing vessels towards the port. Without these special class of tugboats, mega-ships cannot get into the port
"Daisy Star is an advanced version equipped with latest technology & equipment. It is high class in terms of fire-fighting operations and has two high power engines each developing a bollard pull of 60 tonnes and a speed ahead of around 12 knots. The tug has been designed to provide high performance line & ship handling capabilities thereby augmenting the fleet of JNPT," said authorities.
