Bears took control of FMCG stocks in closing bell; Nestle, HUL, Godrej Consumer drag

United Spirits Limited surged 5% to emerge the biggest gainer on a volatile day for the sector.

FMCG stocks were among the top laggards of Thursday's trading session. Heavyweights Nestle India, Hindustan Unilever, Godrej Consumer and ITC led the heavy losses.
 
Towards close, Nifty FMCG traded at 34,032.35 down 295.00 points or 0.86%, touching a high of 34,543.00 and low of 33,988.20 in an intraday trade on Thursday.
 
Nestle India shed Rs378.25 or 2.04% to trade at Rs18,137 on the NSE. Hindustan Unilever was Rs44.30 or 1.83% down at Rs2,373.00. Godrej Consumer Products traded at Rs732.70 down Rs12  or 1.61%. ITC was 1.05% on the downside. 
Godrej Consumer on Tuesday highlighted about its quarterly performance ending December 2020, by saying, "demand trends in our categories across the key countries we operate in, remained stable."

Colgate Palmolive, Tata Consumer and Marico also traded in the red. 

McDowell (United Spirits Limited) led the gains on a volatile day for the sector. The company stock was in demand and surged 5.04 % to trade at Rs615.70 up Rs29.55. Jubilant Foods, UBL and VBL also traded over 2% higher. Britannia, Emami and Dabur also closed marginally higher on Thursday.
