Virgin Holidays has become the latest travel firm to cancel holidays following the latest COVID-19 lockdown restrictions that were imposed in part of the U.K. The tour operator mentioned that refunds would be offered to travellers due for departure before mid-February.
Rivals Tui Group, Jet2 and Thomas Cook also announced similar moves in recent days. The recently re-launched Thomas Cook said it would call customers to offer refunds or rebooking. Tui mentioned that it was cancelling all holidays in line with international travel restrictions.
The travel giant stated that customers due to depart from England, Scotland and Wales would be contacted to discuss options. It also that customers due to travel from an English airport before mid-February, or from a Scottish or Welsh airport up to January 31, would not be able to do so.
Virgin Holidays added in its statement that the upcoming holiday schedule has been reviewed in line with the new national lockdown restrictions and all holidays up to and including February 14 will now be cancelled. The company has decided to provide a digital voucher for customers whose holidays will no longer be going ahead.
It said the decision has been undertaken to simplify the options and to provide immediate peace of mind for customers for the value of their trip. It will be redeemable up until September 30, which customers can use to rebook a holiday, departing any time before December 31. Customers will also be allowed to request a refund.
