SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday announced a ?28,400-crore Industrial Development Package-2021, aimed at attracting Rs 20,000 crore investments and creating 4.5 lakh jobs in the Union Territory.
“The Union cabinet sanctioned the package on January 6… It will remain in force for 17 years,” he said.
The package comes as a big relief for industrialists and will cover the manufacturing industries and the services sector, principally tourism and IT. New entrepreneurs will get investment incentives in terms of low-interest capital.
“This is a historic industrial package. It will give J&K’s economy a new boost and lead the UT towards growth and sustainable development,” the L-Sinha said.
The L-G also stated that his administration is working on drawing up a long- and short-term strategy for streamlining J&K’s power infrastructure.
Sinha further disclosed that J&K has earned the first slot on the road-connectivity front. “In 2023, people of J&K will travel in metro for the first time,” he added.
On queries about the Lawyapora encounter on December 30, Sinha said, “Let me tell you that J&K is a very sensitive UT. I have noted all versions, including that of the forces and the families [of the slain trio]. I will come up with facts before you at an appropriate time.”
The families of the three slain youths, identified as ‘terrorists’, have repeatedly claimed that their wards were not involved with militancy and killed in “stage-managed encounter” by the security forces.
On restoration of 4G internet in J&K, Sinha said “there will be good news soon in the coming days”.
