New Delhi, Jan 7 (UNI) Vodafone Idea (Vi) on Thursday moved the Supreme Court, seeking modification to carry out 'arithmetical errors' in the Department of Telecommunications' (DoT) calculation of Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR)-related dues, to be paid by the telecom major.
The company submitted that neither its raising any dispute on AGR, nor reassessment. It wants a modification to a limited extent of allowing to carry out corrections.
According to the DoT's calculation, Vi has sought AGR dues of Rs 58,400 crore. Of this, the company has paid Rs 7,854 crore and now owes the government Rs 50,400 crore more to be paid in 10 equal installments through March 31, 2031.
The firm's own estimate puts the dues at Rs 21,533 crore, but the top court had barred telco from self-assessing their dues, and went with the DoT's claimed amounts.
In September, 2020, the apex court had directed the Telecom companies to make 10 per cent upfront payment of their AGR dues, with the 10-year payment schedule to begin on April 1, 2021. The top court ordered that annual installments should be paid by February 7 every year.
