BHUBANESWAR: BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi on Thursday launched an initiative to feed poor and hungry people of the state. She dedicated the 'Annapurna trust' here with the help of five social organisations.
In the first phase, the trust will work in Bhubaneswar and provide hot cooked meals to poor hungry destitute.
The trust is the brainchild of Bhubaneswar MP Sarangi. Rotary International District 3262, So Am I Foundation Trust, Umesh Khandelwal Trust, Youth For Action Trust and Art of Living Foundation are the partner organizations of Annapurna.
She said establishing a hunger free and beggar free Odisha is the motto of the organization. “Feasible solution of sustainable livelihood initiative for the hungry people of the state is the ultimate goal of the trust,” she added.
This project was started one month ago on a trial basis in the capital, but it will subsequently cover the state. At present, cooked food prepared in hygienic manner is provided to 200 poor hungry people of Bhubaneswar. The people who remain empty stomach due to poverty and want of food will receive the food.
“It is an initiative to help hungry people, but it’s not a scheme. We will set up a community kitchen to run the show. The social organisations will help the initiative. Many people have donated money for this and we are maintaining transparency by making the transactions public,” said Sarangi, chief advisor of the trust.
She said a preliminary survey was conducted by the organization to identify the hungry people who are without food during lunch time. “These people were identified mostly near railway stations, bus stands, temples and marketplaces. Everyday our volunteers will distribute cooked food in the city in two vehicles between 12 noon and 2pm. The expenditure and arrangement of the feeding programme is managed by the partner organizations,” she added.
