Joaquin Phoenix starrer Joker emerged as one of the biggest hits of 2019 by becoming the first R-rated film to enter the 1 billion club at the ticket windows. And now it has achieved a new milestone as it sold more than 1.4 million copies including disc, electronic sell-through (EST) and TVOD (transactional video-on-demand) to become no.1 in UK. The film has surpassed the sales of Frozen 2, Jumanji: The Next Level, 1917 and Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. Talking about the film, Joaquin Phoenix lost 24 kgs for his character and for that he used to eat just only 1 per day for three months. He refused to take any guidance or help from other diet experts or nutritionists. Well, we must say that he deserves an award not only for his performance but also for his dedication and commitment. The standalone film is being touted as an origin story as well as a character study of the Clown Prince of Crime.
