Hyderabad: As the nation woke up to the start on the first day of the third Test at Sydney Cricket Ground, it was a pleasant sight and listened to the national anthems of India and Australia. But what caught the attention of the early morning viewers was the emotional connection of Mohammed Siraj, who had tears in his eyes when India’s national anthem Jana Gana Mana….. was played.
The Hyderabad pace bowler, who made a sensational Test debut in the previous match at Melbourne, was seen wiping his tears with his senior bowling partner Jasprit Bumrah giving him an appreciative nod.
Perhaps Siraj remembered his late father Mohammed Ghouse, who always told him with words, Desh koh roshan karo (make the nation proud).Siraj was very close to his father Ghouse, who had passed away in November with the Hyderabad bowler away in Australia.
Siraj, in fact, had a wonderful start to the third test when he forced the dangerous left hander David Warner, who is coming back after injury, to edge to the second slip to Cheteshwar Pujara, in his second over.
Playing a Test match is the pinnacle of this sport…
