THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The union government has decided to send an expert team to the state in the wake of an increase in Covid-19 caseload.
A communique issued by the government of India, said: “The Centre rushes a high-level team to Kerala for supporting the state in public health interventions in Covid-19 management.”
The high-level team that will reach the state on Friday will be headed by Dr S K Singh, Director, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
The team is expected to review the public health interventions in the management of Covid-19 by the state government and support the health authorities in these measures.
The state has reported 35,038 cases in the last seven days, including about 5,000 in a day. Meanwhile, the caseload has reportedly been declining in most other states. The state health department had reported that the caseload has increased in six districts after the local body polls.
Besides, the department had also warned that cases might soon hit 9,000 per day due to the relaxation in the lockdown and an increased movement in the public places.
Expert teams have been visiting various states to strengthen the efforts of the state governments in Covid-19 management. The teams interact with the state health authorities to get a first-hand understanding of the challenges.
