New Delhi: After a decline over 41 days, the active cases in India rose Thursday, increasing by 537 to 2,28,083 cases. The increase is primarily driven by Kerala and Maharashtra — the two states with the highest number of active cases.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 recoveries in India crossed 1 crore. India continues to be the country with the highest number of Covid-19 recoveries in the world.

In the last 24 hours, India recorded 20,346 new cases of Covid-19, with over 65 per cent of the new cases reported from the five states with the highest active case count.

For the first time in 41 days, the active number of cases in India increased. As of Thursday, active cases stand at 2,28,083. Kerala, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and West Bengal have the highest number of active cases currently.

As many as 222 Covid-19 patients succumbed to the infection across the country, bringing the total Covid-19 death toll in India to 1,50,336 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Punjab’s case fatality rate (CFR) continues to be the highest in the country at 3.22. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s CFR increased to 2.56. However, Sikkim’s fatality rate reduced to 2.16. India’s overall case fatality rate is at 1.45.

As many as 9,37,590 Covid-19 tests were conducted across 1,202 government laboratories and 1,103 private laboratories in the last 24 hours.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 17,84,00,995 tests have been carried out in India.

The test positivity rate increased to 2.1 per cent in the last 24 hours. The overall test positivity, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is now 5.8 per cent.

The total number of Covid-19 recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic reached 1,00,16,859, with 19,587 people being discharged in the last 24 hours.

As many as 1,03,95,278 people have been infected with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. The largest number of cases so far have been reported from Maharashtra, followed by Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Kerala reported 6,394 cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The number of active cases increased to 65,252 in the last 24 hours.

As many as 25 people died in the last 24 hours, bringing the state’s death toll to 3,209. A total of 7,90,882 people have tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra saw a rise in active case count, going up to 51,969. In the last 24 hours, the state reported 4,382 new cases and 66 deaths. A total of 19,54,553 people in the state have been infected with Covid-19, of which 49,825 have died.

In Uttar Pradesh, active cases reduced to 11,939, with 728 people testing positive in the last 24 hours. A total of 8,441 people in the state have died of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, with eight deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

In Karnataka, active cases reduced to 9,196, as 784 people tested positive for the disease in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic to 9,24,137. Of these, 12,124 people have died, with six deaths being reported in the last 24 hours.

Chhattisgarh had the fifth highest number of active cases as of Thursday, with 9,109 cases. As many as 1,050 people tested positive for the disease in the last 24 hours, which brings the total number of cases detected in the state to 2,85,586.

The state reported 10 Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, which takes its total death toll to 3,447.
