SC rebuffs media reports on its action against senior judge

New Delhi, Jan 7 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Thursday issued a statement refuting the recent media reports about the action likely to be taken by Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde with regards to the allegations against one of its senior sitting judges.
"Media has recently been reporting about complaints making insinuations against members of the higher judiciary, and the action likely to be taken by the Chief Justice of India. "Supreme Court is being quoted as the source of the information. It is clarified once and for all that inquiries under the "In-house Procedure" being totally and wholly confidential in nature, Supreme Court never releases information in matters incidental thereto," the press release issued by the Apex Court said.
Though the statement does not mention any particular media report or issue, recent days have seen news reports about steps being taken by CJI to deal with a letter of complaint sent to him by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on October 6, 2020.
It was recently reported that the office of CJI SA Bobde had sought an explanation from second senior most judge of the Supreme Court, Justice NV Ramana with regard to the allegations levelled against him by Mr Reddy.
About five months ago, an unprecedented row erupted between the Andhra Pradesh High Court and CM Reddy, who accused the state judiciary of stalling all the policy decisions of his government.
On an appeal by the state government, the Supreme Court on November 25 lifted the gag order on reporting the FIR, while a bunch of petitions asking for action against CM Reddy for his remarks against justice Ramana in the letter were dismissed by the top court on December 1.
